Juntos San Antonio is sweetening up St. Paul Square’s Sunday markets with its newest event, Cakewalk: A Sunday Cake Swap. The locally owned business is bringing the viral cake picnic craze to Alamo City on November 23, promising a sugar rush of community fun and frosting.

Cake swaps are one of 2025’s most wholesome trends. The concept is simple: bakers of all skill levels are invited to bring their best tortes, gateaux, and trifles to share with other dessert lovers. The meetups have drawn large crowds from Amsterdam to San Francisco.

‍

Everyone is welcome, from home bakers to professional pastry chefs. Channeling Ina Garten, the organizers say store-bought is fine. However, they do ask that guests support the local economy by purchasing from a San Antonio-owned sweet shop or bakery.

“Cake Swap is really about connecting with your neighbors,” says Amalia Fernandez, Founder of Juntos San Antonio, in a release. “It’s a fun, lighthearted way for locals and makers to come together, share something sweet, and celebrate community.”

The November feast is the latest brainchild of Fernandez, who plans Juntos’ vendor markets while finishing up her degree at Texas A&M University — San Antonio. In addition to helping St. Paul Square curate its weekly Sundays at the Square, she organized the district’s first citywide plant swap earlier in October.

Attendance at Cakewalk is free and open to all ages. Bakers can reserve a spot through an online RSVP form. Set up is between 9-10 am with the grand tasting taking place between 10 am-noon.
